DJ and producer David Alvarado bets on Mexico as the future of global electronic music and launches his label Ruyasound in CDMX

This Wednesday, May 27th, David Alvarado and RUYASOUND take over Hotel Condesa DF for an experience of music, community and connection, spreading across the different spaces of the hotel.

The electronic music scene in Mexico City has spent years, decades really, quietly building its own identity. Sometimes dense, sometimes more refined, but always with deep roots and one eye on what’s happening out there. It’s thanks to the vision and relentless work of local promoters, producers, DJs, artists and an entire army of collaborators that the mexican scene has become what it is today. And the world is starting to notice.

One of the clearest signs of that arrives this week, when David Alvarado, a cult figure with over three decades in the global underground, chooses Mexico City to launch RUYASOUND, his new record label and creative laboratory.

For those who don’t know him, though in the scene few can honestly say that, his story is the kind that can’t be manufactured. In the early nineties, Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva, founders of the legendary Plus 8 label, discovered him and brought him into a world that was redefining what electronic music could sound like.

What followed was a career of over 200 releases on labels like Peacefrog, Ghostly, Ovum, Ultra Music and Strictly Rhythm, with the support of Carl Cox, John Digweed, Dubfire and Pete Tong along the way.

Over the years, Alvarado never really lost touch with Mexico. He kept coming back, playing festivals and clubs across the country, collaborating with homegrown talents like Luis Flores and Sussie 4.

Born in the United States with Mexican roots, his path has always moved between cultures, geographies and identities. At a moment when values are shifting, he finds himself reflecting on purpose, belonging and where he truly comes from, and that reflection brings him back to Mexico, the promised land where, according to Alvarado, the future lives.

That conviction takes shape as RUYASOUND: a platform built to bridge the Mexican scene and the global electronic community through collaboration, experimentation and cultural exchange. And with music not just for the dance floor, but for your everyday life.

The first chapter is Machines Can Talk, Alvarado’s most personal project and RUYASOUND’s debut release. Far from traditional dancefloor structures, it explores sonic landscapes drawn from the desert, natural cycles and the texture of contemporary human experience. The debut album, God of Nature, is where this new chapter begins: intimate, immersive and quietly powerful.

The launch takes place on Wednesday May 27th at Hotel Condesa DF, orchestrated by electronic music lover, producer and promoter Ticky Garza and Naomi Palovits, who helped launch the North American careers of acts like Nortec as well as labels Get Physical from Germany and the Ed Banger records, from France.

The night includes a meet & greet where DJs, promoters and scene leaders can sit with Alvarado, share their work and explore real possibilities, a listening session open to the public on the hotel’s rooftop presenting Machines Can Talk “God of Nature” and a “closing party” at the hotel´s speakeasy with DJ sets by David Alvarado and local pioneer, Quecho.

Ruya means dream in Arabic, and with the launch of Ruyasound in Mexico City, for many of us, this dream has already begun.
