Opening Thursday May 22, 19:00-23:00
This Thursday, May 22, Galería Daniela Elbahara opens the exhibition of artist Miguel González, Malas Mañas — visual chronicles inspired by the streets and culture of northeastern Mexico.
What to expect:
Images capturing specific atmospheres: a dark street corner, the roar of a sleek black pickup truck, the polluted air from factories and rusty pipes, the red glow of a traffic light, or the 15-peso dance with a nightclub hostess in a damp dive at odd hours.
About the artist’s work:
Through sensitive cartographies, Miguel creates a cultural narrative of his surroundings, incorporating found materials such as pieces of wood turned into frames, ash used as pigment, and cement slabs transformed into canvases.
Miguel González was born in Querétaro, Querétaro, and currently lives in Monterrey, N.L. His practice focuses on drawing and painting. His work is narrative but often includes moments where line and color detach from symbolism to reveal an abstract nature. While his themes vary, there is a strong interest in everyday life, spatial representation, and the intersections between representation and Monterrey’s cultural identity.
A graduate of the Faculty of Visual Arts at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, his recent exhibitions include Ciudad Abierta at Casa de la Cultura San Pedro (2025), Lo brutal at Galería Sitio Centro (2025), and The Brainwashing Machine at The Crypt Gallery, London (2024).
On view from May 22 to June 27.
